About the Colposcopy Service

The Colposcopy Service at Health New Zealand Te Whatu Ora Counties Manukau is integral to New Zealand's national cervical screening programme, providing vital services for the early detection and treatment of cervical abnormalities. Our primary focus is to offer comprehensive visual examinations to women referred through the screening programme, identifying potential lesions requiring treatment.

Purpose of the Position

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Colposcopy Clinical Nurse Specialist to join our dynamic team. In this pivotal role, you will collaborate with clinical leads and service management teams to enhance early engagement with women and whānau requiring access to the Colposcopy Screening Service. The position demands advanced clinical knowledge and reasoning, as well as the ability to lead and coordinate culturally appropriate, evidence-based care to women undergoing colposcopy procedures.

Key Responsibilities

  • Promote excellence in clinical practice, ensuring the delivery of high-quality care aligned with HNZ Te Whatu Ora Counties Manukau’s vision and values.
  • Provide responsive coaching and leadership to enhance the confidence and effectiveness of staff working within the Colposcopy Screening Service, fostering a culture of manaakitanga (hospitality) and whanaungatanga (relationships).
  • Collaborate with health professionals to improve their knowledge and application of the Colposcopy Screening Service, enhancing outcomes for women and their whānau.
  • Engage, support, and facilitate women and whaanau referred to the Colposcopy Screening Services, using a case management approach to achieve their healthcare goals.
  • Support the coordination of care to ensure equitable access to healthcare services, promoting the principles of health equity.
  • Lead the development and provision of coordinated services, across both primary and secondary care pathways, for women accessing the Colposcopy Screening Programme.

Essential:

  • NZ Registered Nurse with a current New Zealand Practicing Certificate
  • 5 + years experience, post registration, with relevant experience in a Colposcopy Service
  • Demonstrated ability to write and communicate clinical guidelines and processes.
  • Experience in problem-solving, planning, and leading initiatives to improve patient care within a clinical environment.

Preferred:

  • A Master’s degree in Nursing or related field.
  • Expertise in the New Zealand cervical screening programme and demonstrated smear-taking experience.
