Case Loading Midwife, Botany Downs Birthing Unit

About the Role:

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Primary Birthing Unit – Case Loading Midwife to provide continuity of care to women throughout the antenatal, labour, birth, and postnatal periods. This role requires a midwife who is passionate about supporting women in their maternity journey, while ensuring a high standard of clinical care and collaboration with other maternity and healthcare providers.

As a Case Loading Midwife, you will be responsible for managing a caseload of 40-50 women per annum, delivering midwifery care throughout pregnancy, birth, and the postnatal period. You will work with a motivated group of clients, ensuring seamless care within the Birthing Unit and across other Health New Zealand Counties Manukau maternity services as required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide Continuity of Care: Support women through the entire maternity process, offering care 24/7, including telephone advice or in-person assessments for urgent issues.
  • Collaboration with Healthcare Providers: Work closely with district secondary services and other health professionals to ensure access to required care, including obstetric consultations.
  • Quality Improvement and Risk Management: Demonstrate leadership in identifying quality improvement opportunities and participate in case review meetings and development of controlled documents.
  • Professional Development: Commit to your ongoing professional development, ensuring up-to-date knowledge in midwifery practice, cultural safety, and legal and ethical standards.
  • Cultural Sensitivity and Diversity: Uphold the principles of the Treaty of Waitangi/Te Tiriti O Waitangi, respecting diverse cultural beliefs and practices.
  • Utilize IT Systems: Efficiently use clinical information systems such as i.PM, Clinical Portal, and BadgerNet.

Essential:

  • NZ Registered Midwife with Current Midwifery Registration
  • 2+ years recent midwifery experience in NZ, post registration
  • Full and clean NZ drivers licence
  • Demonstrated clinical leadership and ability to maintain evidence-based practice.
  • Strong commitment to quality improvement and professional development.
