Health Psychologist, Cardiology - Psychological Medicine

Part Time 0.8FTE, Fixed term until February 2026

Remuneration as per APEX MECA guidelines - step 1 Psychologist Scale

The Psychological Medicine Service is looking for a newly registered Health Psychologist to join its innovative team. The service is particularly interested in candidates with an interest in cardiology.

The Service is predominantly based at Middlemore Hospital with in - and outpatient care delivered across multiple satellite sites in the Counties Manukau area. You will be part of a department that includes a number of health psychologists, clinical psychologists, consultation-liaison psychiatrists and clinical nurse specialists. 

Assessments undertaken by health psychologists provide an understanding of the person and their difficulties from a broad bio-psycho-social and developmental perspective and include the use of detailed psychological, cognitive and behavioural assessment interviews, and the use of standardised assessments tools. Clinically you will be working closely with a hospital speciality service. 

Interventions commonly used, include individual therapy (often with a strong CBT and/or ACT focus), therapeutic groups, family therapy, psychoeducational groups, behaviour management, and case consultation. The service is committed to supporting psychologists with their professional and clinical skills development. 

Previous clinical experience in a healthcare setting would be an advantage. This role will potentially involve working with adolescents and young adults.

Essential:

  • Eligible to register or registered with the NZ Psychologists Board
  • Current Annual Practising Certificate with the NZ Psychologists Board
  • Full, clean driver’s licence
