 Counties Manukau is based in South Auckland and is within the largest Health New Zealand Districts across Aotearoa, New Zealand by population and provides employment for more than 7,000 people across the region

With approximately 130,000 adult and paediatric presentations per year our Emergency Department at Middlemore Hospital is one of the busiest in Australasia.  Middlemore Hospital is situated in a lower socio-economic area and serves a culturally diverse, high need population with high acuity presentations. The department is accredited with the Australasian College of Emergency Medicine (ACEM) for 36 months of training as a mixed Tier 1 Emergency Department..

About the Team/Service/ Location

Middlemore Hospital ED is a busy Major Trauma Centre seeing approximately 300 major trauma patients (ISS >13) per year as well as acting as the quaternary centre for spinal cord, mangled limb and burns patients. The hospital is well supported by dedicated Trauma, Burns and Spinal Cord teams and has an active trauma committee that provide governance and oversite. The hospital also provides immediate care for walk in paediatric trauma patients and maintains excellent links with the local cardio thoracic and neurosurgical centres via the Northern Regional Trauma Committee. The ED specialist plays a vital role in acting as team leader for major trauma.

If you are a SMO with ED/Trauma experience and looking for a change/sabbatical the join us! 

Be Registered /or able to be registered with the Medical Council of New Zealand
FACEM or in last 6 months of training with all other requirements met
Consultant level decision making
Working at Health New Zealand
